Everyone’s been talking about it and this relatively new concept of “digital nomad” is creating a buzz on various online media. I was fascinated by the term when I first stumbled upon it.
If you think digital nomad is about running away from your office and spending your time on the beach, I recommend that you stop reading now.
So, what exactly digital nomad is all about?
A digital nomad is an individual who utilizes digital tools and resources to work from anywhere. In other terms, a digital nomad is a person who works without being dependent on a specific location.
The common misconception is that most people think that digital nomadism is about travelling the world while working. Although it’s partially true, as a digital nomad you want to stay far away from tourist destinations as productivity becomes challenging.
According to Wikipedia, digital nomads are people who use technologies to earn living while following a nomadic lifestyle. Such people typically work remotely from places such as coffee shops, co-working spaces, and even public libraries.

Break Free From Daily Routine
I still remember how I would wake up and leave my house at 6.30 am. I had to go through the same road and the same traffic jam each and every day. Indulging myself in a digital nomadic lifestyle has changed my daily routine. I never did the same thing each morning when I woke up. There is something new waiting for me. Being a digital nomad helps you to break from your regular daily routine.
Expansion Of Knowledge
How do you expect to gain knowledge when you just get a degree from a University and keep reading books? You will every possible way to learn more about the outside world. The real world I mean. A digital nomad will get great opportunities to meet people from different countries. This will allow you to learn the languages, culture, and history of other countries. Learning and adapting to different cultures are fun things to do.
Improves Your Value
With the great knowledge acquired through the digital nomad journey, you will have the experience to improve your personal value. On the other hand, you are broken free from the constraining lifestyle which will allow you to be whoever you wish to be. Travelling to new places from time to time will help you leverage yourself through the challenges you will face. A digital nomad lifestyle will allow you to be the REAL you and improve your real value.
As I’ve mentioned earlier, the more places you visit the more people you will encounter. One of the writers working on my online projects is someone I encountered during my travel to Kenya. It will be relatively easier to make connections through a nomadic lifestyle rather than attending the same old-fashioned networking events with boring sales pitches. You never know maybe you might end up making connections with VCs or angel investors who might be interested in funding your next startup.
Growth Hack Your Life
In today’s world, you’re not restricted to staying in one place and being there forever working for someone or running your own business. The business world is changing with rapid growth in the technology sector. You can operate your businesses or work from anywhere today with high-quality online tools. According to the survey conducted by Surepayroll, 86% of those surveyed preferred working alone to hit maximum productivity. On the other hand, two-thirds of managers agreed that there is an increase in the overall productivity of employees working remotely.
As a digital nomad, you can increase your productivity level and get things done in a timely manner.
Increases Health Benefits
Stranded in one place and working extra hours can increase your stress. Some of the research studies conducted by the American Psychological Association show that more than 80% of employees feel stress with their job while 77% of them are having physical effects due to stress.
I’m from the Asian region and Asians love to work long hours. However, from my personal experience working longer hours will decrease the productivity level while increasing the risk of getting serious health issues.
Being a digital nomad provides you with the flexibility to choose your own working schedule. You will have more time to exercise and cook your own food without having the necessity to eat fast food. When you’re not tied to the traditional working environment, the opportunities to keep you healthy and active are endless.
